A student held a photo contest for children across Northamptonshire to showcase their pandemic snapshots.

Georgia Watkins, who is studying a Masters in Fine Art at the University of Northampton, started the Northamptonshire Schools Photograph Project.

The project asked students from elementary and secondary schools across the county to submit their pandemic snapshots on a range of topics including our planet, light and beauty.

Students were encouraged to take photos that stimulated their creativity without the limitations of photographic or artistic skills.

The photographs are now being exhibited in the NN Contemporary Art gallery.

Georgia said, “I was very surprised with the quality of the photos.

“It was refreshing to see so many young people who are passionate about art, especially in their younger years.”

Georgia was also tasked with picking her favorite take, which Guilsborough Academy student Isabelle Davies dubbed the “Seal of Disapproval”.

Georgia added, “It was very difficult to choose a favorite because I received so many wonderful submissions.

“Every student has thought so creatively about each topic and they are all so different.

“In the end, I had to choose Isabella’s model for first place because it has so much charm.

“She captured the image of the seal and managed to give the animal a character that shows its expression of disapproval.

“I think she has the photographer’s ability to perceive interesting subjects.”

All photographs will be on view tomorrow (June 30th) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at NN Contemporary Art. Entry is free, but all visitors must register in advance on the gallery’s website.
