Her 14-year-old daughter and her seven-year-old son were left to their own devices and survived on “c ** p” foods like chocolate and frozen meals.

The older child was also forced to see her brother go to school for the three days.

Meanwhile, during the marathon, the mother mixed cocaine, cannabis, and prescription drugs with alcohol.

She was eventually found half-dressed by police outside a pub in Daventry, Northants, with a 35-year-old pal.

The police arrested her when she was drunk and said she had “done a terrible thing” and was a “bad mother”.

‘DISGUSTING’

The mother has now been incarcerated for two years and eight months after admitting five cases related to child neglect and child abuse.

Her friend pleaded guilty to drug possession charges and was sentenced to a total of four months in prison and suspended for two years.

The court was told the young girl was struggling to feed her brother and had relied on “c ** p” – including strawberries, chocolate and frozen foods.

She told officers she had panic attacks and nervous breakdowns and claimed that her mother “ruined her life.”

The children were taken into police protection after their mother was arrested and have lived with their families ever since.

Subsequently, investigating officer Detective Constable Laura Jardine of the Northamptonshire Police Department Child Protection Team said: “The case involved a series of terrible decisions made by a mother who put her own wishes above the needs of her children.

“Their behavior shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how to be a good parent. Her actions were self-centered and based only on what she wanted to do and not what her children needed.

“The whole experience and the ensuing consequences were very hard for her daughter and son, but I am glad that she admitted her mistakes and was punished for them.

“I wish the children all the best for the future and hope that in time they can leave this painful experience behind them.”
