People warned not to travel to the Norfolk coast this weekend

People have been told to stay away from the Norfolk coast, follow restrictions, take some ownership and stay home starting this weekend.

The warnings come as coronavirus rates continue to rise and hit record highs across Norfolk.

The North Norfolk County Council, which has repeatedly warned visitors not to stay out of the way since the county opened on Aug.

The local authority had previously warned to close its 25+ parking lots if it deems it necessary to deter visitors from the area.

A spokesman for NNDC said: “Cases of COVID in all parts of Norfolk continue to increase and NNDC is urging people across the county to follow government orders to stay home except for the limited purposes stated and that they should train locally – that doesn’t mean going to the coast to play sports or go on a day trip. “

North Norfolk MP Duncan Baker added his voice to the warnings, saying he wanted the police to crack down on people caught breaking the rules.

He said, “It is now more important than ever that we follow the guidelines, and it is very clear that you need to stay on site and only have to leave your house once a day to exercise. It comes back to what the government keeps saying: it means taking some personal responsibility to protect yourself and others.

“We saw that this new strain of the virus is far more transmissible than the previous variant. We have more than 200 people in our local hospitals who are extremely sick and we have a lot of elderly people wanting to get out. “This pandemic and there is light at the end of the tunnel if we follow the rules.”

In Great Yarmouth, Carl Smith, chairman of the Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said the district was “very out of season” and added: “We ask non-local residents to play their roles and stay away from our coast for the time being His.”

Mr Smith said the council will keep its parking lots open but monitor the situation and deploy Covid marshals if necessary.

The area’s National Trust gardens, parks and landscapes will remain open to the people this weekend, but the organization said the safety of its staff, volunteers and visitors from the nearby community remains a priority.
