Attachment: Birmingham Bears versus Derbyshire Falcons

Conference location: Edgbaston, Birmingham

Date: Thursday June 24th 2021

Start time: 6.30 p.m.

What are the facts?

The Bears enter this game after an away loss to Durham – largely thanks to Cameron Bancroft, the Australian’s quick 76 was enough to push the total out of reach. The Bears won’t worry too much, however, as a previous four-game winning streak dropped them to nine points.

Your guests on Thursday evening are in a more precarious position near the bottom of the table. Billy Godlemen’s side have only won one in the last five, their most recent game losing to the Leicestershire Foxes and missing 42 runs. The Falcons will be aware that they are that far from qualifying spots – only the Northamptonshire Steelbacks are behind.

This is the reverse of the game that took place on June 13 – where the bears took three wickets out of the winners in a leisurely run.

Who’s in shape?

Sam Hain, the middle-class batsman, has so far developed into one of the outstanding players in the blast. The right-handed person averages an impressive 71.50. It was a mixed start for opening player Pieter Malan, who had to be content with a duck in the last encounter but returned a manageable 63 against Northants.

All-rounder Carlos Brathwaite was a useful bowler for the Bears. The barbadian has had 10 wickets so far in the tournament, his spells have achieved an economy of 7.96. Derbyshire will also know Danny Briggs, the left spinner, whose best return this season was a 3 for 35 against Leicestershire, bringing his total for the tournament to nine.

Some of the hawks’ individual stroke performances were not reflected in their position in the table. Leus de Plooy stormed to 92 in their loss to Lancashire Lightning on June 12, raising his average to 48.00.

Logan van Beek of the Netherlands continued to demonstrate his quality in limited overs with the ball for Derbyshire – he has now won 12 wickets while teammate Finn Hudson-Prentice is just behind him at 11.

What’s the team news?

The Birmingham Bears’ Dan Mousley was excluded from training on Wednesday due to a broken finger. Matt Lamb joins the squad. Even without Jake Lintott (Covid), Olly Stone (back), Henry Brookes (thigh) and Rob Yates (illness), the Bears can still get by. Chris Woakes is traveling with England.

Birmingham Bears squad: Will Rhodes, Carlos Brathwaite, Jacob Bethell, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Michael Burgess, Sam Hain, Adam Hose, Matt Lamb, Pieter Malan, Craig Miles, Liam Norwell, Ed Pollock

Matt Critchley begins his tenure as Derbyshire T20 captain with Billy Godleman out of the roster while Tom Wood and Anuj Dal undergo fitness tests.

Derbyshire squads: Luis Reece, Tom Wood, Leus du Plooy, Matt Critchley, Harry Came, Brooke Guest, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, Michael Cohen, Anuj Dal, Mattie McKiernan, Logan van Beek, George Scrimshaw, Conor McKerr
