Discover Daventry’s culinary heritage and culture at the festival

What treasures are waiting to be discovered?

The Heritage Open Days return in September, giving people a chance to explore places and have new experiences.

Many events are dedicated to this year’s Edible England theme and are opportunities to learn about food production, celebrate local specialties and uncover the customs and idiosyncrasies surrounding what we eat and drink.

Daventry Museum – Edible England Display & Town Trail shows long-forgotten kitchen utensils as well as some familiar cooking utensils that are still in use today. In addition to traditional Northamptonshire recipes, the museum will share tips from wartime cookbooks.

It runs on September 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and on September 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Booking is required.

Sarah Holloway, Program Manager for Heritage Open Days said, “We all care about where we live, but we don’t necessarily know the stories behind the buildings and rooms we walk by every day. Our event organizers keep finding creative ways to tell these stories and keep them alive.

“The days connect people through shared experiences and this year feels more important than ever. This is also one of the reasons we chose Edible England as the theme. Food brings people together and what we eat and drink is at the heart of much of our culture, our history, our communities and our daily lives. ”
