The Super Thursday Vote 2021 Local Election leads to Northamptonshire | Anglia

The Northamptonshire local elections today include two new unit councils and the county commissioner for police, fire and crime.

The results will be displayed here once the votes have been counted on Friday and MondayThe local elections, which usually take place in May each year, have piled up because they were postponed during the pandemic.

There was also a shake in the local government in Northamptonshire after the defunct county council virtually went bankrupt and was bailed out by the government.

Northamptonshire County Council and all of the county councils in Corby, Daventry, East Northamptonshire, Kettering, Northampton, South Northamptonshire and Wellingborough were scrapped and two unified agencies were established in their place.

These are the first elections to the North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils

Elections in Northamptonshire on Thursday May 6th

  • All 78 seats in the new North Northamptonshire Council – three councilors are elected in each electoral division

  • All 93 seats in the new West Northamptonshire Council – three councilors are elected in each electoral division

  • Northamptonshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner – currently Conservative Stephen Mold

On Thursday, polling stations were open with social distancing measures, including wearing a face covering, and voters were asked to use their own pen or pencil.

Coronavirus security measures also affect the counting of votes, which is usually done immediately after polling stations close and until the early hours of the following day.

This year the censuses will be carried out over several days across the Anglia region and all results will not be announced until the following Monday.
