Cash Boost for Northampton Foodbank to support the community

A generous cash boost has been donated to Weston Favell Foodbank to support their important community work.

The £ 5,000 donation from the Barratt Homes Community Fund Initiative will give the charity a boost to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Foodbank, founded in 2012, is a joint project of the Emmanuel Group of Churches, Weston Favell of St. Peter and Storehouse Church and a member of the Trussell Trust.

Julie Parsons, fundraiser for Weston Favell Foodbank, said, “We were overwhelmed by the generosity shown at this extremely challenging time, even though the vast majority of donations were for groceries or to buy groceries.

“While this has been greatly appreciated and has enabled us to deliver much needed supplies to people in need, we still have bills to pay and this unconstrained funding is a lifeline for us. We were able to attribute it to a funding bottleneck in personnel costs.

“While we rely heavily on a wonderful team of volunteers, it is of course important that our organization pays employees to function consistently, safely and effectively. The Barratt Homes Community Fund grant meant we would begin 2021 with the confident knowledge that these positions are well on their way to being funded for the year. “

Prior to the pandemic, over 45 volunteers helped run the food bank at the Weston Favell Center on Billing Brook Road in Northampton, Northamptonshire.

People using the service can benefit from a hot drink and meal at Café Emm with a professional to assess their needs and help them.

You could see a Community law advisor helping with benefits, tariff changes, home insulation and eco deals. Emmanuel Church recently added a debt counseling service to help transform people’s lives in the long term.

Alison Raine, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said, “We strive to serve the communities in and around the areas we build and were delighted to make a donation to Weston Favell Foodbank to help do the fantastic work support that they do.

“We have seen the food bank continue to provide critical services that vulnerable members of the community depend on, despite the impact of the pandemic.”
