Robbie Fitzpatrick investigation opens after Northampton crash

An investigation into the death of a “beloved” father of two who was killed in a motorcycle accident at a busy Northampton intersection opens.

The family of 24-year-old Robbie Fitzpatrick was heartbroken when he tragically died on July 29 in an accident at the junction of Harlestone Road and Lodge Way in Northampton.

Northamptonshire Police, along with the East Midlands Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene which took Mr Fitzpatrick to University Hospital Coventry, where he sadly died.

An investigation into the death will now be opened on Thursday, August 19. The investigation is adjourned to conduct further investigative work.

Shortly after his death, Robbie Fitzpatrick’s family paid tribute to “their world”.

In a statement released by police, Mr. Fitzpatrick’s family said: “As a family, we are heartbroken over the loss of our Robbie – beloved son, brother, grandson and dad of his two wonderful children.

“He was such a character and always put a smile on our faces.

“He was our world. Robbie will be missed by anyone who has had the pleasure to know him.

“While we are coming to terms with what has happened, we kindly ask for some space and privacy.”

Northamptonshire Police continue to request witnesses to the incident or anyone who has footage of the crash to report.

A spokesman said: “At around 9pm on Thursday, July 29th, a red Vauxhall Corsa collided with a gray Honda motorcycle at the traffic lights at the intersection of Harlestone Road and Lodge Way in Dallington, Northampton.

“The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old man, sustained severe head, chest and leg injuries and was taken to Coventry University Hospital. Unfortunately, he died a short time later, on the morning of Saturday July 31st.

“Police officers continue to appeal to anyone who saw the collision, or anyone with relevant CCTV, smart doorbell, or dash cam footage of the collision or the type of driving before it, to get in touch as soon as possible to contact the Northamptonshire Police.
