Santa Claus returns to unwrap Christmas in North Northamptonshire

Christmas

November 16, 2022

Be like Santa Claus and support local businesses on your High Street is the message from North Northamptonshire Council as the countdown to Christmas begins and festive celebrations in the area are unwrapped.

Returning for a second year, a heart-warming video showing how Santa is getting ready for the festive season will run alongside a social media campaign featuring independent businesses operating in North Northamptonshire’s town centres, and the reasons to shop and support local.

The Christmas Hi Street campaign promotes all our towns to offer including shopping, culture, food and drink, business, leisure, and health and beauty services, and aims to increase footfall in town centers and boost the local economy.

Cllr David Brackenbury, the Council’s Executive Member for Growth and Regeneration, said: “North Northamptonshire is home to wonderful High Streets of all shapes and sizes. From historic shopping streets in towns such as Higham Ferrers, Oundle and Thrapston, to traditional town centers like Kettering and Wellingborough, and modern shopping precincts like Corby, there is something for everyone.

“There are fantastic local businesses in our town centers run by creative, talented people, and the festive season is an important time for them. Local businesses often sell unique products that you can’t find elsewhere or online, and I am encouraging residents to take some time to explore and support their High Street this festive season.”

Cllr Helen Howell, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Sport, Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “High Streets are a special place and can really bring the community together. They create character in our towns and there will be plenty to see and do in North Northamptonshire in the lead up to Christmas with a variety of events and activities taking place.

“There will be festive markets with goods from local traders, seasonal window displays to admire, Christmas trails to explore, plus much more! Not to mention the range of independent businesses selling festive goods who are ready to welcome customers through their doors.”

Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of the Council said: “This Christmas, we want to shine a light on our local High Streets and celebrate the variety of small businesses we have across the area.

“We also want to spread a little Christmas cheer as we know the season can be a difficult time for some, particularly this year, and we hope by showcasing our local towns people will take a trip there not only to shop, but to build networks and friendships too.”

The campaign will run during the six weeks leading up to Christmas, and along with Santa Claus’ video, it features a range of local businesses, includes a competition to win pantomime tickets and shares information about festive events taking place in North Northamptonshire’s towns.
