The Louise Sissons Rutland Wedding Party is nominated for the Celebrant Industry Awards 2021

A teacher who became a wedding party was nominated for an industry award.

Louise Sissons decided to change her career path after teaching English for years and becoming assistant principal.

After moving to Morcott, she used her public speaking skills for new purposes outside of the classroom and gatherings, instead helping couples celebrate their wedding anniversaries.

“I became a celebrant three years ago,” said Louise, who not only celebrates in Rutland, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, but also occasionally covers school supplies from Oakham textbook teachers.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been nominated for Best Client Service in the Weddings category of the Celebrant Industry Awards 2021.

“There have been a lot of wedding party bookings lately because people had to put off during the pandemic.”

Louise, who has been married for 32 years, says wedding celebrations have changed over the years, allowing for different ideas and styles for couples to choose.

“The role of a celebrant is to tell the couple’s story, how they met and what they want for the future, as well as to introduce readings or speeches or songs from friends or family,” she said.

“It’s really a nice job and a lot of fun.”

The nominees will vote next week before the top five in each category are put before a jury.

The winners will be notified at the end of the month.
